Unai Emery’s Paris Saint-Germain FC will host the Spanish champions FC Barcelona in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League at Parc des Princes.

The French champions, Paris Saint-Germain, have been working quite harder during their new head coach Unai Emery’s reign. They have been struggling in both domestice and European competitions. However, since the new year they managed to fined a quite stronger form, particularly in the domestic competitions.

Unai Emery’s Paris Saint-Germain were included in Group A with Arsenal, FC Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad in the group stage of the 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League season.

Paris Saint-Germain won three and drew three matches, gathering twelve points and finished on a second place with two points behind group-winners Arsenal. Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal were unbeaten in the group stage.

BARCELONA
The Spanish champions and five times UEFA Champions League winners, FC Barcelona, have overall performing quite stable in the European competitions but have perhaps been a bit off form when it comes to the domestic competition.

Big rivals, Real Madrid, are getting closer and closer to seal their first league title in years. Nevertheless, FC Barcelona have reached the final of 2016/2017 Copa del Rey for the sixth year in a row after defeating Atletico Madrid in the semi-final.

FC Barcelona were included in Group C with Borussia Mönchengladbach, Manchester City and Celtic FC in the group stage of 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League season. They have won five matches and suffered just one unfortunate defeat to their former head coach Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. FC Barcelona gathered overall 15 points, topping Group C.

Team News: FC Barcelona’s head coach, Luis Enrique, revealed in his pre-match press conference at Parc des Princes that three players will miss the first leg of the Round of 16 between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona. Turkey international Arda Turan is out due to a groin injury, Argentina international Javier Mascherano will be absent due to a hamstring injury and Aleix Vidal is out due to an ankle injury.

SUMMARY
Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have faced each other in nine matches in the European competitions. Paris Saint-Germain have won twice while FC Barcelona have managed to win four matches. Three matches have ended in draws.

Last time these two clubs faced each other in the UEFA Champions League, was in the quarter-final in April 2015, when FC Barcelona won five-one on aggregate.

However, with Unai Emery’s experience and knowledge from the European competitions, they will push and test FC Barcelona, making them to work har for their place in the quarter-finals.
