Allsvenskan Will Be Back This Spring

The Swedish top tier football league, 2017 Allsvenskan, is set to start on April 2 with a big match, where IFK Göteborg will host the defending Swedish champions Malmö FF.


The 2017 Allsvenskan will include 16 football clubs that will compete for Lennart Johansson’s trophy, like the previous seasons. Salamander News will give a seasonal preview of each team participating in this season’s Allsvenskan.

The defending Swedish champions are Malmö FF, the football club where Zlatan Ibrahimovic began his professional career. Malmö FF are the most successfull football club as they have overall won 22 Allsvenskan titles.

Three clubs have been promoted to this season’s Allsvenskan and they are AFC Eskilstuna, Sirius and Halmstad. Two of the three football clubs promoted, AFC Eskilstuna and Sirius, make their first ever appearance in Allsvenskan.

The first week is planned to take place on April 2, 2017. The biggest of them are of course the match between the two rivals, IFK Göteborg and Malmö FF. Sporting director of IFK Göteborg announced that this match will be hosted at the Ullevi Stadium, which is a bigger venue and is able to host nearly 40,000 attendance. Malmö FF been better and managed to get favourable result over IFK Göteborg over the years but now IFK Göteborg will be looking to change that.
