Liverpool – Manchester City | Match Preview

Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool will host Manchester City in the 19th week of the 2016/2017 English Premier League at Anfield.

Jürgen Klopp’s side has been putting up with solid performances as the half of this season gone so far. Perhaps two important contributing factors have been the arrival of Jürgen Klopp and no European club competition.

Liverpool have managed to win three of their last five matches in the English Premier League. Several of the victories have ended with crushing results. Two of their last five matches have ended in a draw and defeat, the latter to AFC Bournemouth who pulled off an impressive comeback from three-nil to win four-three.

Liverpool are now located on second place with 40 points in the league table, being just one point ahead of Saturday’s opponents Manchester City and six points behind the current league leaders.

Team News: Liverpool have five players injured and they are Philippe Coutinho, Cameron Brannagan, Danny Ings, Marko Grujic and Joel Matip. However, Philippe Coutinho and Joel Matip are still recovering from their respective injury and are set to come back in weeks.

Pep Guardiola’s side has also been having a good run in the English Premier League recently. Manchester City crushed Hull City in their previous match with a convincing three-nil victory.

Manchester City have won three matches in the last five English Premier League fixtures. Nevertheless, they have also suffered defeats twice, one big and horrible defeat to the defending English champions Leicester City.

Manchester City are located on a third place with 39 points in the league table. They are just one point behind Liverpool and just two points ahead of fourth placed Arsenal.

Team News: Two important players are set to return to the squad from their suspensions handed by the FA for violent conduct and they are Sergio Agüero and Fernandinho. Manchester City have also five players out due to injuries and they are Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany, Fabian Delph, Ilkay Gündogan and John Stones.

Both clubs have faced each other in 155 matches, where Liverpool have won most of them (75 matches). Manchester City have won 42 of them. 40 matches have ended in draws.

Pep Guardiola’s side has underperformed this season so far, there were huge expectations upon his arrival given his history with FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich.

With the home advantage, Liverpool are the slight favourites to win this match but it will be very narrow and it could also possibly end in a draw.
